14.00-17.00 Hands-on R with practical coding examples
This lecture will give an overview of the statistical software R and the popular interface RStudio. The session will introduce the core components of the R environment and of RStudio, starting from the building blocks of coding with R.
The presentation will then cover progressively more advanced topics, including data manipulation, parallel computing, enhancing performance, and object-oriented programming. Several tips and tricks for efficient and effective R programming will be provided during the course.
Participants require laptops. Participants also require the software R and the related interface (IDE) RStudio, these should be installed on their machines before the lecture.
Speaker biography: Michael Fop is an Assistant Professor of Statistics at University College Dublin. His research involves the development of novel statistical methods for the analysis of high-dimensional and complex data, with a focus on clustering and classification, variable selection, and statistical network analysis. He is especially interested in developing these methods starting from application-motivated problems. Data programming and software development are also central to his research activity, and he is the author of several statistical packages for data analysis
Participants are welcome to join in person (S206 Schumann Building, University of Limerick) or remotely. A Zoom link will circulate to remote participants on Wednesday 24th of August.
There is a 0.5 deduction from the training unit allocation per Enterprise Alliance member joining this session.
