Brief synopsis of lecture content: This course will cover introductory modelling for the analysis of missing data. Missing data is extremely common in all areas of science so this course will be of use to a wide variety of practitioners. The methods are presented both at a theoretical level and also with practical examples where all code is available. The practical classes include instructions on how to use the popular mice package.
Online lectures with some coding sessions
Participants require a laptop with a working version of R and RStudio (Desktop) installed.
Participants should have :
• A basic understanding of regression methods and generalised linear models.
• Some familiarity with R including the ability to import/export data, manipulate data frames, fit basic statistical models, and generate simple exploratory and diagnostic plots.
Andrew Parnell is Hamilton Professor in the Hamilton Institute at Maynooth University. His research is in statistics and machine learning for large structured data sets in a variety of application areas. He has co-authored over 70 peer-reviewed papers in journals such as Science, Nature Communications, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and has methodological publications in journals such as Statistics and Computing, The Annals of Applied Statistics, and Journal of the Royal Statistical Society: Series C. He has been awarded over €3 million to date in direct funding as PI or Co-PI, and has been involved in grants totalling over €40 million as collaborator. He has been heavily involved in the commercialisation of research through the start-up companies Prolego Scientific (CSO) and Atturos (Scientific Advisor). He is currently a principal investigator in the SFI I-Form Advanced Manufacturing Centre, and a funded investigator in the SFI Insight Centre for Data Analytics. He is an expert reviewer for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
The SFI Centre for Research Training in Foundations of Data Science will train a cohort of PhD students with world-class foundational understanding in the horizontal themes of Applied Mathematics, Statistics, and Machine Learning.
