Eoin Walsh
Student
University of Limerick

Eoin holds a B.Sc. in Applied Physics from the University of Limerick. The focus of Eoin’s research is the application of Supervised Machine Learning to segment particles of interest in Transmission Electron Microscope images. More specifically, Eoin is interested in the development of synthetic image data that can be used to train Machine Learning Algorithms. This is data that is quite similar to experimental data but is rendered programmatically. Such a program can provide the locations of rendered synthetic particles, thus avoiding the arduous task of manual image labelling when developing a Supervised Machine Learning algorithm. Eoin also has a keen interest in computer vision and automation in general and is eager to get some industry experience in these areas.

Thesis Title: The Case for Synthetically Rendered Transmission Electron Microscope Image Data as a Method for the Development of Supervised Machine Learning Algorithms

Areas of interest: Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Automation.
